Bubble Bum Booster Seat – Review and Giveaway

We are being very brave this summer; we’re getting on an actual airplane with all three kids. We’ve never tried it with three before, and we may never try again either, depending on how it goes. But in a bid to see something further away than a ferry journey allows, we’re getting on a plane.

Among other disadvantages of flying (not that I’m being negative or desperately hanging on to the wonder that was the ferry for the last five years), there’s the issue of car-seats. We’ll hire a car when we arrive, but we’ll need to bring car-seats and booster-seats, which is where my brand new Bubble Bum seat comes in.

This is an inflatable booster seat that’s perfect for travel; before inflation, it folds up to a size small enough to fit in a handbag, and comes with its own drawstring bag.

Inflating it is simple – no pump required – just blow it up like you would a balloon. And ta-dah! You have a booster seat. The child sits on it as they would a standard booster seat, and wears the normal car seat-belt. It’s suitable for children in the 15kg to 36kg category  – so from about 33lbs if you’re old-school, or from age 4 to 11 years. It’s approved under the United Nations ECE Regulation R44/04 for safety.

It’s easy to use – the child sits on it, and you strap them in with a normal seat-belt, running it through the red plastic clips on either side of the booster seat.

The kids were delighted because of course anything new is a novelty, and very excited about trying it out. The purple colour was a big hit – way more interesting than the boring black booster seats we have already, according to the testers. Both girls gave it the thumbs up, and then I had to confiscate it to avoid fights over whose turn it was to use it next.

The booster seat comes with an additional strap which can be used to position the seat-belt (to keep it across the shoulder rather than right up on the neck) – useful for smaller kids. This was the only part that caused confusion for us – we couldn’t follow the instructions for the shoulder strap so had to look it up online – there’s a YouTube video demonstrating how it works.

We’ll definitely bring the Bubble Bum booster seat on holidays with us – it makes a lot more sense than trying to bring the standard seats or hire them abroad. Easy to use, easy to carry, and two very pleased testers. And hopefully a good omen for our upcoming flight with an infamous airline not known for being luggage friendly…

Important note: cushion boosters are handy for holidays, but the safest place for your child is a high-back booster – see How to keep your older child safe – booster seats myths and facts for full details.

  1. We’ve only recently started discussing our desperate need for one of these. We spend so long trying to close the belts over the standard booster. *crosses fingers*

  2. Good Morning Andrea

Would love one of these..have 3 in seats so would be so loved in our car/ house !

  3. Would love this prize. We too are flying this year instead of ferrying. My sister is getting married in France and we thought flying would be easier than the 7 hours drive from the ferry when we arrive in France, especially with a new baby on board.

  4. Please include me in the draw…it’s just the ticket for our holiday to Spain in July.

I hear you in relation to three smallies on a flight..two, we could manage but three..im not so confident! ! Im sure we’ll manage just fine…wont we??!!

  5. I definitely need one as i have three small children and its aright old struggle getting all three car seat to fit i think they are a great idea

  6. It sounds like a very handy and neat accessory, ideal for travelling. The bubble-pink would be a disadvantage in this house too tho’. We are very sensitive that way…..

  7. What a fantastic idea! I had no clue these existed! If I don’t win one, I’ll definately be buying one.

  8. great idea! we’re always stuck for space when bringing a neighbour’s child with us on outings…this looks like it would fit in the middle no problem? would love one! x
