Ooh Valentine’s Day – maybe we’ll book a romantic night away in a hotel.
Scrap that – no babysitter, no money. But I’ll buy him a card and a present.
Well, a card anyway.
Those are nice cards! I’ll get one each for the kids as well.
Oh wait, there’s €3.99 each. Maybe I’ll just make cards for the kids.
And we could make a cake – a heart-shaped cake. They’d love that.
Hmm, I don’t have a heart-shaped cake tin.
Maybe we can just cut a normal sponge cake into a heart shape.
Or leave it as a sponge cake, but with pink icing.
Or is pink icing full of additives – I wonder will they just get hyper.
Actually, I think I’ll buy a cake instead.
And we’ll have a special dinner with the kids.
Although that’s not terribly romantic.
Maybe we’ll get the kids off to bed, and have a romantic dinner ourselves – just the two of us.
Candles, and wine, and something fancy to eat – I’ll try a new recipe.
Though that would involve cooking.
Maybe I can get him to do steak and chips.
I don’t know where the candles are.
Sure we’ll just have it on the couch – no point in setting the table.
Ah – there’s a child awake upstairs.
Oh, the steak’s cold now.
And we forgot to get the cake.
Stick on the TV?
I’ll let him watch Match of the Day.
Who says romance is dead.
LOL! Oh so real 😉

And indeed, that’s exactly how it panned out 🙂
your one true love – prosecco, will stick with you. Even through Match of the Day.
And indeed it did! As did the wine. And the cake from Avoca. When’s the next excuse to celebrate!
So funny! The hottest things are gonna get for me this valentines day is snuggling up with the child who has a high temperature! Ah, parenting…

I feel bad even replying to this comment, knowing how your V-day really ended up 🙁
Hopefully she will be better soon, and you will get to celebrate that instead.
Oh no, not the match of the day! I’ll bake something 🙂

Yes, it ended up with Match of the Day. We did watch The Equaliser first, which was very romantic 🙂
After a few years of a similar thought process on Valentines Day or hubby’s birthday, I decided to aim low and went with this option, “I love you” toast.

That. Is. Genius.
Love it! Will definitely go low next year 🙂
Last year the kids served us out Valentine’s meal and then ate 90% of it! This year I let them light the candles and then sent them off. After two interruptions they moved in to do don’t colouring and eavesdropping (They didn’t like the sauce I had on the dinner so at least that was saved!). But I realised that I wouldn’t have it any other way! I’d much rather this than getting into a taxi on this rainy night and taking my chances in an over crowded restaurant. From that first Valentine’s Day when I ate while feeding a newborn, to the child interrupted meal I’ve just had, I kinda like it better with kids (not that I’ll admit that to them ).

I’m with you on that! Tonight, we had a quick pasta dinner that Damien made then he and the kids drove me to Physio because I couldn’t drive or walk after doing something to my hip!! Now we’re home and there’s football on the TV, and I’m on the couch with a blanket over me, and it’s not remotely romantic but I’m just so happy to be sitting down! I suspect we will have wine and sneaky cake later…
